Chalet Rotstocki Reviews

"A perfect holiday”

Overall rating: 5 Stars

Review author: Francesa_10   London

Travel date: June 2010 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We have just enjoyed six days at the Chalet Rotstocki. It is linked to the hotel Schweizerhof which is a big advantage.

The chalet gave us independence but access to all the hotel's resources; the restaurant, the health spa, its pool and sauna. The accommodation is luxurious; we had a suite of rooms, High definition TV, WiFi, a dishwasher, fridge and wine cooler. The decor is tasteful and expensive.

The bathrooms are Italian marble. It means real relaxation. From the chalet's huge balcony, we had a perfect view of the north face of the Eiger.

Weekly wander tickets, though expensive, (SF200) meant we were free to use either train or bus wherever and whenever the mood took us. Timetables are, of course, carefully synchronised. Local bus trips from the village were dramatic and the alpine flowers breathtakingly beautiful.

"The Chalet Rotstocki @ Romtantik Hotel was awesome!!! Great for groups or families.”

Travel date: May 2010 | Trip type: Family with teenagers

We stayed at the Chalet Rotstocki over Easter this year and had the most fantastic time. We were a group of 8 and took the bottom two of the four floors in the chalet and it was fantastic. The bedrooms were excellent (especially if you snare the master bedroom on the bottom floor), the bathrooms gigantic with fantastic double baths, there is plenty of communal space for eating, drinking, lazing around, watching TV and also for dumping your ski gear. The patio is a nice big size for spending time having a drink after a hard day on the piste.

The views of the mountains are breathtaking and as a facility I couldn't recommend Chalet Rotstocki highly enough. The Chalet is attached to the Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof which has a great spa, gym and other facilities.

The local station for trains up the mountain is very close by and made skiing so easy. The skiing was great and I understand there is a wide variety of slopes for all levels of skier - we were mainly beginners so thankfully didn't see too much other than the blue runs!!!

The town of Grindelwald is lovely and there are plenty of restaurants and a number of bars. Overall I would recommend Chalet Rotstocki to anyone.

“Chalet Rostocki - living the dream”

Overall rating: 5 Stars

Travel date: August 2009 | Trip type: Family

We stayed in the beautiful Chalet Rotstocki, which is set on the hillside close behind the hotel. We were blown away by the level of luxury, with the red carpet treatment beginning literally as soon as you set foot through the door onto the deep wine coloured carpet of the entrance hall. The chalet decor is incredibly stylish and tasteful, with clearly no expense spared or corners cut on the fittings. We were told it is privately owned but affiliated to the hotel, and the owners had personally chosen the fixtures and fittings. As a result it had a much more personal feel than a formulaic hotel suite.

On our floor there were two large doubles and a dorm room for the children, each with its own large bathroom; there was a connecting, beautifully furnished studio flat on the floor above – perfect for teenagers. We loved the huge baths and enormous shower heads, the rich colour schemes and fabrics used and the funky lighting - it is beyond plush!

The views of the Eiger and surrounding mountains and the picture postcard chalets dotted on the hillside from our south-facing balcony were amazing, which we enjoyed with a pre-dinner drink at the end of the day. The chalet had a kitchenette with crockery, cutlery, glasses, two fridges (drinks & food) and a small dishwasher so we could have hot & cold drinks and light snacks without having to get room service all the time which was really useful. We were on a two-family summer holiday in what we were promised was one of the most beautiful regions in Europe. It lived up to this billing and there were loads of activities to do with the children besides walking, with great weather on the whole too.

Grindelwald was a good base for travelling around the area via train, boat and cable car, and by having a half price travel card and a local pass we could explore the region easily, the station being literally about a 2 minute walk away from the hotel. The hotel food was good with plenty of choice, only criticism would be that the tiles around the hotel pool were looking a little tired, but we were told it is being overhauled and enlarged in the coming couple of months. The rest of the hotel was in top condition. Highlights for us were Jungfraujoch – top of Europe, the Mannlichen plateau, a boat trip from Interlaken, and a lovely walk from Bussalp to Bort.

The children’s favourites were the play area at Bort, the summer toboggan run at Pfinstegg, riding on the cable cars, trains and gondolas, the trottibikes, crazy golf and the water slide and diving board at the (very clean) Grindelwald leisure centre. It was a really good and really different holiday, in a stunning chalet.

Fantastic Location, Wonderful Interior Designed Chalet, Tremendous Fun”

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Travel date: December 2009 | Trip type: Extended Family

We are one of two families who stayed together in Chalet Rotstocki connected to the hotel.

The Chalet is absolutely beautifully designed with fantastic living space, bedrooms and lovely bathrooms. The chalet is huge and there was plenty of room just using 2 floors of the chalet. The views are amazing from the balcony and even from the beds, out of the windows to the mountains.

The hotel had great facilities for adults and kids alike with pool, spa and great restaurant and bar. I didn't know there was so much to do in the mountains in the summer. We tobogganed, walked, scootered, cycled, zipwired, abseiled and that was only the tip of the iceberg.

We would have loved to have stayed longer as there was still so much we wanted to do. The town of Grindlewald was filled with lots of lovely restaurants and a huge sports centre with loads to do if you didn't feel like doing anything in the mountains.
