Summer activities in Grindelwald

A few suggestions for things to do in the summer

Hiking

With around 300km of prepared walking and hiking trails the Jungfrau Region is one of the best loved areas in Switzerland among walkers and hikers. The trails range from easy and gentle for older walkers or families with small children, to difficult for the experienced hiker. Explore the walking areas of Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren.

The region abounds with cable cars, mountain railways and postal buses to make it easy for hikers and walkers to get around.

Adventure Sports

First Flyer

The First Flyer originated in the USA where it is known as a Zip Rider.

The First Flyer gives four people the chance to simultaneously yet independently, glide through the air on a length of cable about 800 metres long, at speeds of up to 84km/h.

In effect the construction is four parallel Tyroliennes, which link the starting and finishing platforms without supporting masts. Guests sit in a special harness which is very similar to that used for paragliding. The harness is attached to a safe roller mechanism.

The facility is just as suitable for use in winter as in summer and makes a spectacular addition to the other mountain activities on offer.

The First Flyer is suitable for people of all ages: it will fascinate children and adults and the fact that four people can use the First Flyer at the same time highlights the attraction as a family and group experience.

The dream of swishing through the air becomes reality with the First Flyer; particularly as the high speed and maximum height of 45 metres above ground will create a carefree feeling. This kind of facility is currently found only in the USA (Park City, Snowbird, Utah Olympic Park, Icy Strait Point, Wildcat and Heavenly Valley) and in Siberia (Krasnojarsk). The facility at Grindelwald-First is the first of its kind in Europe.

Bungy Jumping

There are things in life that you've just got to do even if they seem a bit mad. Bungy jumping is bound to raise your heart rate.

The breath-taking surroundings of the jumping platforms set the perfect scene for this exhilarating experience.

The ultimate white-water adventure! In summer we raft everyday on the Lütschine river because it has great water levels: the glacial snow melts in the summer sun and fills the river with exciting rapids.

Canyoning

Go with the flow! Jump into foaming pools, abseil down waterfalls, and slither down natural waterslides. There are few places in the world where you can experience the hidden world of canyoning. It is so much fun you have to give it a go!

Paargliding in the Alps above GrindelwaldTandem paragliding

Fly free as a bird, gliding weightlessly in the air... one of mankind's oldest dreams comes true. Run a few steps downhill and soar into another dimension. See the earth fall away beneath you and fly free - a fantastic feeling.

Mountaineering and Via Ferrata

The Jungfrau Region is home to countless majestic mountains in the Bernese Alps offering ascents of all levels. For example, the Mönch, one of the easiest summits of over 4000 meters, can be reached with ease from the Jungfraujoch.
